INTRODUCTION
The Burj Khalifa was designed by a team led by 85 Adrian Smith of Skidmore,Owings & Merrill,the firm that designed the Sears Tower in Chicago. Although the design was taken from Tower Palace III,the central core of the Burj Khalifa has all vertical transport with the exception of the exit stairs within each wing.
The structure also features a cladding system that has been designed to withstand the hot summer temperatures of Dubai.
It has a total of 57 lifts and 8 escalators.In March 1996,the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia surpassed the Sears Tower’s record as the tallest office building in the world.
The 73.5 m(241 ft)tall stainless steel spire placed atop the 88-story towers brought their height to 451.9 m(1,482 ft 8 in).
About the structure
In 2003,Taiwan’s Taipei 101(also known as Taipei Financial Center)took the title at a towering height of 508 meters(1,666 ft). Exactly a year later,construction began on the Burj Khalifa. It was to form part of a new 2 km(490 acres)major development in the United Arab Emirates called Downtown Dubai at the ‘First Interchange’ near Dubai’s main business district.
The sprawling property was developed by Emaar Properties and Architects Skidmore,Owings & Merrill LLP,led by renowned American architect Adrian Smith. Reaching a height of 828 m(2,716 ft 6 in),this new skyscraper will soon be described as a ‘vertical city’ and become a symbol of the modern world.
DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTIONS
All over the world, people were asking if it was possible to build such a tall building – and that was when the turret was made ‘just’ 518 meters taller than Taipei by 10 meters tall.
It actually grew during the design process to about 310 meters the height of the Eiffel Tower in France. Construction began on 21 September 2004,with the exterior of the structure completed on 1 October 2009. The taller the building, the greater the effect of weather,But the neo-futuristic style Burj Khalifa was designed with a complex Y-shaped cross section to reduce the impact of the wind.
Everything about the turret is superlative and includes a huge number: there were more than 12,000 people from all over the world.
It takes about three months to clean the structure from top to bottom!The monumental building was officially opened on 4 January 2010. It was certified as the tallest building on the planet. Announcing the record,Talal Omar,UAE Country Manager at Guinness World Records said,”It’s a very impressive building with a very unique design.”
BREAKING RECORDS
At 828 meters(2,716 ft 6 in),the turret is more than twice the height of the Empire State Building. It is almost three times the size of the Eiffel Tower.
In order to confirm the Burj as the world’s tallest building. Guinness World Records also confirmed several other lofty achievements for the ground-breaking structure.
One of the most impressive features of the turret is the 555.7 m(1,823 ft 1.9 in)high observation deck. It was previously the tallest in the world until the opening of China’s 632-metre(2,073-ft)Shanghai Tower at 561.3 metres.
On New Year’s Eve 2015, Dubai’s most famous landmark hosted a spectacular display featuring the 828-metre (2,716-ft 6-in). Fireworks erupted from every side(and above)the skyscraper.
In less than 10 minutes, over 1.6 tons (3,527 Ib)of fireworks were released. And a new record was set for the highest fireworks display on a building. The powerful structure has also served as the stage for several other record efforts. Including the highest base jump from a building and the fastest time(2 hours 20 minutes 38 seconds)to climb the Burj Khalifa by bicycle.
