Have you found your future apartment or your new home? Now, you will have to anticipate your moving project so that, on D-Day, your installation in your new home goes smoothly and you are in a good mood. A move, with or without professionals, is always a lot of effort and boxes to prepare. Also, it is better to know how to fill them out as well as possible to avoid unpleasant surprises and wasted time. Here are 5 tips for a successful packaging mission.
Bring all the necessary equipment.
You are now motivated to start the cardboard operation. It would be a shame to interrupt you all the time for lack of supplies. Make sure you have enough boxes of several sizes, strong tape, markers, bubble wrap, and spacers.
Start with what serves you the least.
To avoid packing your boxes in a hurry, give yourself time to start packing about a month and a half before your departure. It’s simple: just start with everything that you don’t use on a daily basis! We are talking about out-of-season clothes (winter clothes if you are in summer, for example), books stored on the shelves, and occasional household appliances. The list is long. But here are several boxes made. Is the deadline approaching? Go about your daily business. Our tip? Do not seal your boxes. So you can always add things at the last moment.
Organize according to a logical method
Then comes the question of storage in each box. Contrary to what one might think, you will not go faster by putting as many things as possible in a large box. It is better to favor small boxes for heavy cases. Indeed, they will be more transportable. In the case of a large box, the weight could cause it to give way and create back pain. Reserve large containers for bulky but light items (quilts, blankets, etc.). On the other hand, be sure to fill your boxes evenly, with no empty spaces in order to avoid sagging during transport.
Take great care of fragile things
Dishes, frames, decorative objects… Take great care of your fragile belongings by wrapping them one by one in bubble wrap or newspaper. You can also reinforce your boxes by forming an adhesive cross under the box. Do not forget to note the direction of the height on the cardboard. Question cables, which are not fragile but which must not be lost, label them with masking tape on which you can note the origin (TV, channel, box…).
Moreover, properly cover your mattresses and rugs with protective packaging materials. If you want to buy online, you can easily get a mattress moving cover and rug storage bag from Britwrap.
Use a color code
Finally, to find your things during the packaging and delivery, it will be useful for you to go through an easy and identifiable code: one color per destination part. Then, at a glance, you will know where to put your boxes. You can also write in marker on your cards.
